HYDRAULIC SERVO DIRECT SHEAR APPARATUS

1. STC-DS10 Hydraulic servo direct shear apparatus is the first domestic 2-axle control servo
method of direct shear apparatus. It is developed jointly by Samyeon Technology and
Geo-Engineering Research Center of Youngnam University.

2. A variety of testing can be implemented.
- Vertical compression test, vertical stress test, vertical stiffness test, cycle test
3. It removed the rotational moment from the rough joint surface
- Load 2 roller bearings on the horizontal axle
- Load 2 LM-guide bearings on the vertical axle
4. Sample loading is simple
- Insert the pre-manufactured internal box into the external box
- Use of several internal boxes following the size of samples

Characteristics of Equipment
1. The measuring device is used similarly with the actual load applied, and the load cell has
10 tonf each for vertical and horizontal while LVDT is 50 mm for each.
2. For implementing the pseudo cyclic test, the load cell of horizontal axle and vertical axle of
actuator shall be made for combined use of compression and tension
3. For moving in vertical and horizontal directions without the tilting or rotation of upper block in
shear, the upper shear box is mobilized in between the two roller bearings that have almost no friction.
4. For adjusting the height of upper shear box following the change in thickness of filling
materials, the internal shear box including the filling material is inserted to the external shear box.
5. For joint model experiment of similar rock and soil of weathered rock, produce 3 different size
of shear box (60 X 60, 100 X 100, 150 X 150mm)

For fixed accuracy and durability, the measuring equipment shall use the world famous products including Moog of the US
- Servo valve(USA, MOOG)
- Load cell(10 tonf, SENSOTEC of US)
- LVDT(50mm, Santes of Japan)
Shear box
- From the external shear box, the lower part is fixed on the base and the upper part is allowed
to move vertically. And it can be moved to the horizontal direction by shear without spinning. In between, the internal box of different sample size is inserted
- Sliding bearing is attached to maintain the vertical load consistently when shearing.
- Adjust the height of upper box for inserting the charging substance in between the joint
surfaces.
- Produce 3 internal shear boxes to consider the scale effect.
Operation program
- It is implemented from Windows OS
- Control 2 axles, and acquire, store, display and print the data up to 13 channels
- The measured value is observed for changes in displacement or load during the
implementation in real time.
- Change the data into ASCII file in the program and store.
