Mullen burst strength tester (C type rapid hydraulic clamp)
In TAPPI Standard, burst strength is specified as a value of pressure that is necessary to burst the paper sheet, by applying pressure to it with a certain speed and deforming the paper into the
shape of a 30.5 mm diameter ball. This machine is designed to measure burst strength of paper, paperboard, film or the like of 0.64 mm or less in thickness.
The pressure gauge reads a value of pressure at the moment the specimen bursts under the pressure generated via a rubber dia phragm by the movement of a motorized plunger.
Clamping pressure of a specimen affects the burst strength, but with this machine, it is possible to fix the specimen easily at a certain level of pressure, by reading the pressure gauge on the hydraulic cylinder of the clamping handle and by controlling the pressure.
Specimen clamp : upper clamp 30.5 mm, lower clamp 31.5 mm
(ISO 33.1 mm)
